St Martin | St Maarten – the Caribbean Jewell – starts shining again
Last two years were very dynamic for both French Saint Martin and Dutch side Sint Maarten. In 2019 residential and commercial real estate market is experiencing big come back with new investments, fresh ideas and projects. The island is recovering very fast. The infrastructure is back to normal and most activities are up and running. Most of the hotels have opened their doors. There is a lot of construction happening all around the island. There is also a large market of timeshares and villa rentals here that has bounced back with construction.
A vast work has been done already to restore this Caribbean jewell and beloved tourist destination to its former glory. St Maarten / St Martin is back and better than ever! What is new on SXM?
Simpson Bay, Pelikan Key
Simpson Bay is undoubtedly the island’s most popular residential, marine, and commercial center as well as heart of entertainment: exclusive shops, casinos, restaurants and bars. The hurricane impact is almost not visible on this part of the island. All bars and restaurants are ready for customers and a lot of activity is happening here every day and evening. All Simpson Bay casinos are opened again.
The hotels of Simpson Bay and Pelikan Key are operating at almost full capacity. Simpson Bay Resort and Marina was one of the first ones that has been reopened. La Vista and Mary’s Boon hotel are up and running.
Flamingo Beach Resort and Royal Palm Beach Resort are currently under renovation.
Brand new, Las Vegas-based development team project, bar Roxxy, was built on Kim Sha beach. It is a new kind of beach bar for St Maarten, a “sophisticated, chic destination”.
There are new investments happening right now in Simpson Bay infrastructure. Prestigious apartment buildings, Simpson Bay Yacht Club, are currently being wired with fiber optic Internet.
Maho, Beacon Hill
The famous Maho Beach and Maho Village, the entertainment hub of the island with its active nightlife and renowned Maho Beach, has also made a remarkable comeback. After so much work being done it looks like a totally brand new place!
The relaunch of the Sonesta Maho, Sonesta Ocean Point hotel and Casino Royale comes after a dramatic redesign and reconstruction that added the new and modern look to this part of the island.
The Maho Village is fully packed with freshly renovated shops and bars. The famous Drift Wood and Sunset beach bars are welcoming customers for a long time already.
The new investment is emerging in Beacon Hill landscape: the world class, chic and stylish Morgan Resort, Spa and Village (formerly the Alegria Beach Resort) with its 124 rooms and suites, along with a “sand-edge” infinity pool and other features.
Cupecoy, Mullet Bay
Mullet Bay and Copecoy area has almost no visible scars left after the hurricane strike. It is very active with construction and renovation work.
American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine is fully renovated and student housing market is becoming very dynamic again.
Not to mention new investment which started in Mullet Bay with very unique project of tallest construction on St Martin / St Maarten, two 21-floors tower buildings on Mullet Bay Golf Course.
Another new investment is under construction and soon to be opened, Adonis Cupecoy Hotel with 52 rooms in a modern and contemporary style.
Porto Cupecoy is fully renovated with it’s beautiful welcoming atmosphere and boutique style restaurants. Cliff and Sapphire residential buildings are currently under active repair.
Great Bay, Cay Hill, Little Bay area
The newest residential development under construction on Sint Maarten, Obi Residences, offering for sale modern condos with great view over lagoon and Caribbean Sea.
A construction permit was just granted for the new 450-room resort on Great Bay Beach. Construction of the luxury hotel, Planet Hollywood Resorts, will take some 18 months to be completed.
Holland House Beach Hotel is open to all guests and is situated right on the beach.
Rainforest Adventures with the steepest zipline in the world is a brand new world-class attraction on SXM island. This new project offers also unique opportunity to see the island with a 360 ° panorama from the hill – the most amazing views in the Caribbean.
Belair Beach Hotel has reopened it’s doors for guests, along with a “newly renovated and tastefully decorated restaurant”.
Terres Basses, French Lowlands
This very prestigious, exclusive gated community, where most of the island’s luxury properties are located, is ready for its habitants and vacation guests.
Around 80% of the real estates have been already repaired and renovated. The Internet infrastructure is currently developing and most of the Terres Basses area is already covered with fiber optics.
The famous luxurious hotel Belmond La Samanna opened for all guests with rooms and public spaces refreshed and renovated.
One of the most popular beach on the island, the jewell of the French side of St Martin, Orient Beach is currently busy with a very active reconstruction. Most of the water activities are restored and operating. Popular and iconic beach bars are rebuilt and opened, like Kakao Beach or Kontiki Beach.
The brand new Secrets St. Martin Resort & Spa – All Inclusive – Adults Only is set to open in 2020 (conversion of the former Riu Palace) and will add to the rooms inventory 258 suites. It is described as “luxurious and romantic hideaway central to all of the cultural vibrance of St. Martin”.
The Anse Marcel Beach Resort & Bar, a luxury resort beside the beach, is already reopened.
The Oyster Bay Beach Resort has completed its reconstruction. The hotel is opened with new features and amenities like infinity pool, newly equipped gym, restaurant and bar, lobby, courtyard.
